Lady GaGa Sues Over Breast Milk Icecream - Pop Culture News - Pedestrian TV

Lady GaGa Sues Over Breast Milk Icecream - Pop Culture News - Pedestrian TV

Lady GaGa
may be the queen of avant-garde, but she obviously can't take it as will as she dishes it out.
Case in point, Baby GaGa icecream, released by a London store and using actual women's breast milk as a key ingredient. GaGa's lawyers are apparently furious, initially demanding that the parlour cease production and sale of the stuff, which was taken off the menu after health concerns last week. They're now threatening legal action, which at GaGa's economic level, likely involves at least nine of the ten plagues.
But owner Matt O'Connor isn't going down without a fight. "How can she possibly claim ownership of the word 'gaga' which since the dawn of time has been one of the first discernable phrases to come from a baby's mouth?" he's said on record, as well as claiming that GaGa has no rights to anything, especially seeing as she cribs from the best of them, including Madonna for her new womb-inspired hit, 'Born This Way'.
Baby-Gaga-ice-cream
"For Lady Gaga to accuse us of stealing her image is laughable when you consider how much she has borrowed from popular culture to create her look and music," says O'Connor.
GaGa has allegedly claimed that the frozen treat is "detrimental" to her image as it is "deliberately provocative and, to many people, nausea-inducing", unlike her meat dress, amniotic Grammy sac or recent Terry Richardson shoot, which were all good, clean-cut fun.

Mel B aka Melanie Brown has just been signed up as the new face of Jenny Craig (Australia and New Zealand).
by Eva Rinaldi
10/10/2011
Today at 10.30am Mel B, the top brass at Jenny Craig, and over a dozen news media enjoyed a healthy and delicious breakfast (and a media gig) at the Centennial Parklands function centre.
In the extremely unlikely event that you didn't know, Mel B is an English pop singer-songwriter, actress, author and television presenter. She is best known around the world as Scary Spice, one of the members of the girl group Spice Girls.
It's well know that brands around the world are often interested in signing up suitable celebrities to promote their wares, and on the surface it looks to be a great match with Jenny Craig being a leader in the weight loss industry for over 30 years, and Mel B recently off pregnancy, enjoying motherhood and looking to loose weight.
The international star told our table "I just love the breakfast. Jenny Craig is just right for me being a busy mum".
Mel B said on her eating "I was eating literally eating morning, noon and night, and its didn't matter what time. I was just eating. I was a house. I love my humps and bumps, but when a newspaper described my shape as the 'bootylicious, curvylicious, post-baby body of Melanie, I knew I had to do something. I had to get the eating under control".
Jenny Craig boss Amy Smith released in a media statement: "Mel told us she doesn't like dieting at all. She loves eating healthy foods and she is thrilled with the health snack options and the amount of fruit and vegetables she gets to eat. Jenny Craig's team of nutritionists and doctors have created a program especially for women like Mel who have recently given birth, that takes into consideration the nutrient levels needed for breastfeeding women", says Ms Smith.
Mel B said: "Life gets a bit crazy when you've got four daughters but it's important for us mums to live healthy and to be in good shape. Mums really need to take time for themselves and get to a place where they are happy with their body again. We should not put it off because we deserve more than that. I healthy happy mum equals a healthy happy family."
After breakfast Mel did some on site TV interviews, believed to be for Channel Seven, followed by a relaxed photo shoot in the lush green parklands. Apparently word must have spread around Sydney press circles, as after just minutes after going outside for the shoot a number of uninvited paparazzi showed up and started snapping away. Mel and her media team probably expected it, so its a good thing that the word is well and truly out about her new campaign with Jenny Craig.
Mel B looks great, so just imagine how hot she will look a few months into the Jenny Craig program. She acknowledge that media, the other former Spice Girls and everyone else will be watching her progress closely, and judging by today it appears UK pop queen is on set to achieve her diet goals. Will you achieve your dieting goals as summer sneaks up on you? Needless to say, you now know who to call, which we strongly suspect for the ideal in the first place.
Thanks for the tasty J.C breakfast guys. Highly recommended.

Fans, friends and family react to Amy Winehouse's death

Fans, friends and family were mourning the death of Amy Winehouse today after her body was found in her flat.

The 27-year-old singer had been troubled by drink and drugs problems throughout her career and news of her death was quickly followed by suggestions that it could be related to one or the other.
The troubled Back To Black artist cancelled all tour dates and engagements last month after a series of erratic public appearances.
But news that she had been found dead at her north London home just before 4pm yesterday came as a shock to many.
Her father, taxi driver-turned jazz singer Mitch Winehouse, was returning to the UK from New York where he had been due to give a concert on Monday.
A spokesman for the soul star said: ''Everyone involved with Amy is shocked and devastated. Our thoughts are with her family and friends.
"The family will issue a statement when ready."
London Ambulance Service said it was called to Winehouse's home in Camden Square at 3.54pm.
Two ambulance crews arrived at the scene within five minutes and a cycle responder also attended, according to a spokeswoman.
A section of the road where the singer lived was cordoned off, while fans and residents gathered at the police tapes, some laying flowers.
A neighbour who did not want to be named said she saw the singer's grief-stricken boyfriend on the ground outside the house.
Forensic officers were seen going in and out of the building and a black private ambulance pulled up outside the house at around 8.45pm.
Officials bearing a red body bag emerged minutes later.
As well as flocking to her home, fans also paid tribute at the Hawley Arms pub in Camden, once a favourite haunt of the pop star.
The pub said in a statement: ''We are shocked and deeply saddened by the news of Amy's death. Apart from her extraordinary musical talent, she was a special person with a good soul and this should not have happened.
''We feel privileged to have known her and we will sorely miss her.''
Speaking near Winehouse's home, a senior police officer said it would be ''inappropriate'' to discuss what killed her before a post-mortem examination had taken place.
Superintendent Raj Kohli said: ''Police were called by the London Ambulance Service to a house in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05 today to reports of a woman found deceased.
''On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin have been informed and I can confirm that the deceased is Amy Winehouse.
''Inquiries continue as to the circumstances of the death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained. There have been no arrests in connection with this incident.
''I am aware of reports suggesting that the death was a result of a suspected drugs overdose, but I would like to re-emphasise that no post-mortem examination has yet taken place and it would be inappropriate to speculate on the cause of death.''
Tributes poured in from celebrities, among them her collaborator Mark Ronson.
The producer said in a statement: ''She was my musical soulmate and like a sister to me. This is one of the saddest days of my life.''
Sylvia Young, of Sylvia Young Theatre School, where a young Winehouse was given a half-scholarship, described the singer as ''a wild spirit'' who was also ''extremely bright''.
''We thought she would do very well in the musical field,'' she told the BBC. ''Certainly she was a wild spirit.
''She was her own person, she would follow what she wanted to do, there was no question about that.''
US singer Carole King, whose song Will You Love Me Tomorrow was covered by Winehouse, said she was ''very grateful'' the star had ''put her wonderful talent'' into recording the track.
King told BBC News: ''She did such a beautiful performance on it. I'm just grateful she gave that gift to Gerry (Goffin, the song's co-writer) and me and to the world. I just really hope that she's found peace now wherever she is.''
Winehouse joins the notorious ''27 Club'' of musicians who have died at that age after struggling to cope with fame.
They include Rolling Stone Brian Jones, who drowned in a swimming pool in 1969; guitarist Jimi Hendrix, who choked to death in 1970 after mixing wine with sleeping pills; and singer Janis Joplin, who suffered a suspected heroin overdose the same year.
Doors star Jim Morrison, who died of heart failure in 1971, and Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, who shot himself in 1994, are also members.

Melanie C has revealed that her next album will be full of "big dance hits". "We're in the studio working now. Tomorrow, in fact. There's a lots of writing and studio time booked in and the results are very exciting," she told Dean Piper. "Jodie's got a good grasp of what I want to do and we're hoping to return to the 'I Turn To You' days with some big dance hits." Harsh added: "I've been a fan of Melanie for years so it's a pleasure to be working with her. We're both extremely focused on things right now. So although we may be at a party together, we're going home early and will be up at the crack of dawn." Harsh has previously remixed songs for Roisin Murphy and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

Baby Spice's pregnancy has helped her 'bond' with fellow Spice Girls

Baby Spice's pregnancy has helped her 'bond' with fellow Spice Girls

Emma Bunton -- aka Baby Spice -- says being pregnant has helped her "bond" with the other Spice Girls.

The 35-year-old star - who is expecting her second child with her fiance Jade Jones – doesn’t see Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell, Mel B or Mel C as often as she would like, but says they grow closer when one of them is going through a life-changing experience.

She explained: "Because we’re all so busy we don't get to see as much of each other as we’d like but when something like this happens the bond we have shines through. It's like a sisterly relationship and that will always be there."

The blonde singer, who already has three-year-old son Beau with Jade, also revealed the former bandmates use family occasions as an excuse to get together and socialise.

She said: "In fact Scarlet [Mel C's daughter] and Cruz [Victoria and David Beckham's son] have birthdays in a few days so it's great excuse to get together."

Emma is particularly close to Victoria and David – who are currently expecting their fourth child – and she recently enjoyed celebrating her engagement with the couple.

She said: "Because Victoria and I are pregnant we talked about that for a bit then I said, 'I do have some other exciting news' and I held up my ring. They jumped out of their seats and hugged and kissed us."

"I Don't Know The Sex Of My Baby"

The ex-Spice Girl has quashed rumours that she is having a girl...

17:35, Monday, 14 February 2011
Victoria Beckham has denied reports that she is expecting a girl, claiming she doesn't know the sex of her unborn baby.
As we previously reported, it had been rumoured that the former Spice Girls star and hubby David Beckham were told they were having a baby girl during a 16-week ultrasound scan - something that VB has now rubbished.
Speaking at the launch of her latest fashion collection in New York yesterday, Posh Spicerevealed: "I can go on the record and say contrary to rumours, I do not know the sex of my baby,”
Posh then added that she feels "lucky" and "blessed" to be adding to her family, which already consists of sons Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz.
Victoria then confessed that the boys would prefer to have a little brother so they can "teach him how to play football", before admitting that if she was having a girl, they "would be over the moon as well."

Ken wants Barbie back!!!

NEW YORK – How Ken Won Barbie's Heart BackJust in time for Valentine’s Day, Ken has brazenly taken out billboards across the country, declaring, “Barbie, I want you back!” Danielle Friedman on the surprising twist in the couple’s 50-year romance—and Mattel's attempt to keep the aging duo in the limelight.
For all the heat that Barbie takes for being perfect, her love life is surprisingly human. After splitting up with Ken seven years ago, she briefly flirted with a bronzed Aussie surfer named Blaine. When that fizzled, she decided to "focus on her career"—not a bad call, considering she's bounced between 125 professions in her 52 years. And today, Mattel announced that, after much soul searching, Barbie has shuffled back into her original beau's stiff open arms, for better or worse. Sienna and Jude who?
Over the past few weeks, the toy company has ramped up an elaborate marketing campaign, in which a dapper-looking Ken has taken out billboards across New York and Los Angeles, declaring, "Barbie, I want you back!" He's reminisced on FacebookTwitter, and FourSquare about their romance. He bought ads in Us Weekly. He even designed a cupcake—Barbie's favorite treat—at Manhattan's hip Magnolia Bakery. ("The wonderful thing about being plastic is that you can eat whatever you want and never gain weight," said Barbie's spokeswoman Michelle Chidoni.) And today, he's proclaiming their love from a virtual mountain: the Times Square JumboTron.
But don't expect girls of Barbie-playing age to know the news: The campaign is targeting adults only. VisitBarbie.com, and nary a hint of the drama exists. "It's play time for grownups," said Tanya Lee Stone, author ofThe Good, the Bad, and the Barbie: A Doll's History and Her Impact on Us.
In a push to stay relevant in a competitive marketplace, Mattel is banking on American adults' love of celebrity-relationship gossip to turn the Barbie and Ken drama into a sales boom. And in attracting thousands of (largely female) fans, the company is effectively making the bold claim that an entirely fictional relationship isn't all that different from the half-true ones we obsess over in the tabloids.
"Barbie and Ken are celebrities, for better or for worse," said Chidoni. "They live in the spotlight. The benefit is, they're plastic, so it doesn't affect them as much."
But will it affect us?
Unlike most flesh-and-blood stars, Barbie and Ken have been a part of pop culture for three generations. (Fact: Somewhere in the world, a Barbie is purchased every three seconds.) The hope is that their glamorous life as a beautiful, stylish couple, mixed with a little childhood nostalgia, will appeal to adults—adults who might then purchase a Barbie and Ken for the kids in their life. "With real stars, you can never own them, but you can possess Barbie and Ken," said M.G. Lord, author of Forever Barbie: The Unauthorized Biography of a Real Doll.
And Barbie and Ken's allure goes beyond kitsch or nostalgia. "Strawberry Shortcake is never going to be a celebrity," said Cooper Lawrence, author of The Cult of Celebrity: What Our Fascination With the Stars Reveals About Us. "She didn't capture our fantasies the way Barbie does. She doesn't have the legend. She happened in the ‘80s briefly. It's like comparing Madonna to a one-hit wonder."
Ken meets Barbie in Toy Story 3.
Barbie and Ken's relationship has, of course, been public from the start. Shortly after the blond bombshell hit the market as a "teenage fashion model" in 1959, parents who didn't want their daughters adulating a young woman with no apparent designs on marriage clamored for a male suitor. Two years later, Mattel introduced Ken, who became Barbie's "first man," as the company called him. Even Ken's arrival, however, kept the couple ahead of the era's gender norms, as he seemed content to take a backseat to Barbie's ambitions. "Barbie went to the moon before Neil Armstrong did," Chidoni said. "She was a CEO in the ‘80s. Barbie has very much been a trailblazer." All the while, Ken stood smiling by her side, seemingly content to go steady without ever marrying or having kids.
Or genitals. In fact, his passivity has called Ken's very existence into question. Most little girls treat Ken as a servant of sorts, or a prop, Barbie historians told The Daily Beast. He's often given the role of valet for Barbie's pink Corvette, or of short-lived arm candy. "Ken is an afterthought," said Lord. "He's a gnat, a fly, a slave of Barbie. He was only made because, in 1961, as probably today in certain places, a woman would've been seen a failure without a male companion."
Still, the couple stayed together through scandal after scandal. For example: the revelation that Barbie was modeled after a German prostitute cartoon. Or when Mattel debuted Barbie's "Slumber Party" outfit in 1965, which came with a scale permanently set at 110 pounds—and a book titled How to Lose Weight, which contained advice like "Don't eat." Or in 1993, when Mattel introduced "Earring Magic Ken," who sported an earring, lavender pleather vest, and a so-called ring pendant around his neck, sparking rampant speculation about his sexuality.
(In a sad subplot, Ken Handler—son of Mattel's founders, and the man for whom the doll was named—turned out to be a closeted gay man, who felt tortured by the mockery his plastic counterpart received, according to Jerry Oppenheimer in Toy Monster: The Big, Bad World of Mattel. He was diagnosed with AIDS in 1990.)
Then, in 2004: heartbreak. Barbie and Ken split, traumatizing longtime fans. "It was like an earthquake when it happened," said Sandi Holder, who runs a popular Barbie collectors' business in Northern California, and is the author of Barbie: A Rare Beauty. Enter Blaine, a new addition to Barbie's beach line. "You knew it was coming," said Lord. "But the pool boy?"
Mattel announces Barbie and Ken’s breakup at a 2004 press conference.
Starting in 2006, Ken began trying to woo Barbie back. He enlisted a celebrity stylist. He got a makeover. And finally, last year, things started coming together for him. He got a role in the Oscar-nominated Toy Story 3. He played Don Draper in Barbie's Mad Men line. He got yet another makeover—just in time for his 50th birthday—and now looks a bit like Justin Bieber. And readier than ever for love, he even joined Match.com, where he discovered that Barbie had also signed up. (Barbie and Ken! They're just like us!).
Guess who’s on Match.com?
Social media followers are thrilled that Barbie and Ken were able to rekindle their love. Though to be sure, "It's almost like learning that your elderly relatives are getting back together," said Lord.
For the decades of (rightful) scrutiny Barbie's been subjected to for representing unrealistic beauty ideals and unbridled materialism, it's nearly impossible not to think about her as representing more than just a toy. As Robin Gerber, author of Barbie and Ruth: The Story of the World's Most Famous Doll and the Woman Who Created Her, points out, Barbie's dilemma over whether to take Ken back may reflect larger societal trends. "Barbie has become rather intelligent and professional. That really tracks with women today, and with the question: Are women going to be forced to marry ‘beneath them'? She's been such a high-flier. Is Ken good enough? Maybe she was dating a surfer because that's all she could find."
(To which Barbie's spokeswoman assures: "Ken is an icon in his own right. He's had a number of careers. He's taken a little bit of a backseat to Barbie, but Ken is the ultimate boyfriend for every occasion.")
As for Barbie's happiness with her original love, time and their Facebook statuses will tell. Little girls might have some insight, too: In the campaign's one crossover with Mattel's kids market, the toy company is selling a packaged set of Barbie and Ken dolls for Valentine's Day, their fates now left to fickle 5-year-old imaginations. The company also just released a new "Sweet Talkin' Ken" doll. Users can press a button on his chest and record a message, which the doll repeats back in a man's voice or, if you so choose, a squeaky high-pitched one. Ken should probably hold on to his publicist.
In the meantime, for all Barbie's baggage when it comes to setting impossible ideals, there's something comforting about her relationship saga—in the same way that it can be reassuring to read that celebrities, just like us, have to contend with heartache, despite all the money and good looks. If Barbie and Ken, a couple that was literally made for each other, have their ups and downs, there might be hope for the rest of us.
